Embrace the Lace

One of my favorite bloggers and DIY experts, Erica Domesek of P.S. I Made This wrote an incredible book of the same name. GB's sister, KC, was wonderful enough to gift that book to me last Christmas. One of her inspirational ideas involves a cardboard mailing tube, some lace and some gold studs. Magically she combines those items and makes a fabulous bracelet.

I was inspired and wanted to give it a try. In true Smash form, I made some changes. Whether they are for the better or not - you can be the judge of that.

I started with an empty toilet paper roll, lace, Mod Podge. I have abnormally wide knuckles. I can fit only 1 out of every 50 bangles over my knuckles. It's crazy annoying because I'm nuts over bangles.

To adjust for my weird hands I cut the roll up the middle.

I applied Mod Podge to both sides to harden the cardboard a bit more. I wanted the bracelet to hold up long enough to wear it more than once.

Using my hot glue gun I layered the lace.

So far, so....ok. I'm not obsessed with this yet, but it has potential.

I found these great sew on rhinestones. So i used those to attach one more piece of lace over the opening to make sure the bracelet did not fall off my arm.

I love the added rhinestone, but I'm not sure about this bracelet. It's cute - but I don't know if it's cute enough. I'll have to wear it on a night out and test it out. What do you guys think?
