Kids Food = The Best Food

Happy First Day Of March! It's almost spring!

I don't know about you guys, but I LOVE kids food. Whether it's mac and cheese, peanut butter and jelly or chicken nuggets - I'm crazy about it.

Being healthy is really important to me so consuming frozen chicken nugs every night is not a possibility.

One night, dinner was my responsibility, and it happened to fall on a night when I was craving some nugs. So I attempted to 'healthify' chicken nuggets.

The following documents said attempt. If you've stopped by Kiss My Smash before, I'm sure you know how this story winds up.

First I chopped boneless, skinless chicken breast into bite size pieces.

I decided to use corn flakes as my breading. GB has done this before and it has turned out great.

For added flavor, I tossed in some salt and pepper. I also threw in a small amount of chili flakes for some spice. Then I crushed it up with my hands. It's fun to play with food, isn't it?

GB suggested to not use an egg wash this time. He believes the chicken has a better crunch without.

All ready to go! I popped these bad boys in the oven at 350° for around 30 minutes.

Fresh out of the oven the nuggets looked exactly the same as before they were cooked. I was nervous.

I served my homemade nuggets with mashed potatoes and corn. Did I mention the dipping sauces? What adult children's meal is complete without dipping sauces? BBQ, ranch and honey rounded out the meal. So how did it taste?

The nuggets were overcooked and did not resemble my guilty pleasure. Sometimes I think I am not meant to cook, ever.

  1. Best homemade nuggets I have ever made have had a combo of panko crumbs & breadcrumbs. If I want them buffalo, I bake them. Then toss them in the sauce & then broil them for a bit. So good!
