Crafting is Hard

This week has been lame on Kiss My Smash.

I am sorry.

Crafting is tough when you work all week long.

Usually I complete many crafts within a short period of time and share them with you.

But over a long period of time I have been stuck on ONE project.

I think I bit off more than I can chew.

I work all day and when I come I craft all night.

Don't get me wrong - I love crafting. It's my favorite moment to unwind and relax. But this project is totally raining on regular new posts. I PROMISE to have it finished soon so I can share new fun stuff with you next week.

Don't forget to vote in the Facebook poll for what project you'd like to see next!

Poll Time!

Time for another poll!

Of the following options what activity would you like me to attempt for Kiss My Smash? Leave me a comment below with your vote, vote on my facebook poll at or tweet me @KissMySmash. I'll tally up the votes between now and Friday night and work on the winning project this weekend!

Option # 1 Birdfeeder

This little guy is made with a hangar and a slinky! I discovered this idea on Pinterest without an orginial source. I did trace it back to Veseys.

Option # 2 Flat-Iron Hair into Waves
I recently had my hair dyed Ombre (brown to chesnut) and it really needs to be wavy in order to look fabulous.  I discovered this on Pinterest as well. The original source is from The Wonder Forest

Option # 3 Heart Garland
I really have no need for a heart garland - but this really is so darn cute. This is from Grace and Light

Let me know what YOU want me to do!

Hot Dots

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you had a great weekend.

With spring's arrival came a lot of fun and colorful nail trends on Pinterest

I love the confetti manicures I've been seeing everywhere and I especially love this tip from The Beauty Department.

I wanted to give it a try but I don't have little nails and I have no idea where to find a pencil in this house. So I improvised. I thought I would give it a whirl with toothpicks.

But as I was pulling out my nail polish I came across a makeup brush I don't use. Perfect! I tested both of them out for you.

I decided to combine bright coral and gray confetti on a white base.

I poured a small amount of polish on some wax paper and began dotting.

The brush worked great. Now time to test out the toothpicks.

Wahoo! It works awesome!

Granted my nails don't look perfect - but I think the toothpick dots are more consistent and neat than those from the brush.

Next time, maybe I'll combine dots and stripes. I'm becoming quite ambitious.

Movie Etiquette

After wearing 5 inch wedge sandals all day, working an 8 hour shift, then having an excellent night out I decided to skip out on a big crafty post yesterday. Instead I chose to share with the world some very important rules.

Sly, my sister, and I were lucky enough to get sneak preview passes to see The Hunger Games last night. We both read the trilogy and have been anticipating this movie for quite a long time.

I won't ruin it for you - but you must go see it.

More importantly, I was shocked by the audience. I was surrounded by the most annoying people ever.

Before this behavior occurs again I thought I would share these following rules with you in hopes that you pass them on. Let's change the world, one blog post at a time.

Movie Etiquette

1. Enough with the clapping!
No matter how incredible that scene was - do not clap. They can not hear you. This is                          annoying. If you must clap - wait until you can rent the movie and clap in your own home. This also pertains to the end of the movie. Again - the actors, directors, writers, etc. can not hear you. Show them how much you loved the movie by buying the DVD.

2. Do not discuss every moment with your friend!
There is nothing worse than sitting next to a pair of movie talkers. I thought Sly was about to start an all out brawl with our movie-going neighbors. Yes, there is much to discuss, especially with The Hunger Games. Talk about it over a latte after the movie. Do not ruin my experience. If you must talk, rent the DVD with the clappers and do it on your own time.

Sidenote - It is also inappropriate to talk to the movie. This is a direct shout-out to the lady who sat behind me. Katniss Everdeen can not hear you. But I can. Shut it.

3. If you have something in your teeth - get a toothpick.
No one loves movie snacks more than me. (Trust me - Sly and I had a $25 dollar concession tab.) However, it can present some problems. For example, the friend of the movie talker behind me had a kernel stuck in her teeth. She proceeded to suck at it for an hour. This is sick and gross. I almost vomited on her. Please be polite and make disgusting sounds at home with the clappers and the talkers.

Those are my thoughts and what should be rules that the entire world follows. Spread Movie Etiquette Awareness with me so we can make the world a better place.

Sidenote # 2 - Sly demanded I share with you that this post was completely her idea.

Smash's Lashes

When I get dressed up for a special night out (and I have enough time) I love applying false lashes. I absolutely adore the look of long lashes. I have tried every mascara on the market but nothing compares to gluing on lashes for some added drama.

Recently I was lucky enough to be able to use a relatively new product that helps your eyelashes grow. All I had to do was apply a drop to my lash line every night before bed.

I thought it would be fun to take pictures to record (if any) progress.

Before you look at all of these absurdly too close photos of my face, I beg you, do not notice how sometimes I needed my eyebrows waxed or how large my pores are. I'm a flawed girl - be kind with your thoughts.

My thoughts at this time of my eyelashes were mostly positive. (Click on any of the photos to enlarge them to see more detail.)

I noticed the tiny bit of difference when I had mascara on.

Now I'm starting to notice a visible difference.

At this point, I was sure I'd take photographs every 2 weeks. In true Smash form, I didn't. The next time I took photos was a little bit more than 2 weeks.

WEEK 10
(Really? It took me 6 weeks to take more pictures?)

I'm almost out of the product at this point - but I am THRILLED with the results. When I compared the following photos with the first photo above, you can see a world of a difference. A coworker accused me of wearing false lashes. She had no idea how happy that made me.

With mascara  - it looks even better.

I will do my best to keep up with this amazing product. There is no turning back now. Real lashes are much better than fake lashes.

Please note: I specifically left the name of the product out of this post. I was not paid nor provided with any free product. These are just my opinions. For more information feel free to email me at kissmysmash (at) gmail (dot) com.

Classic Smash Move

The latest adventure I decided to embark on is jewelry making. Making jewelry is in my blood. My grandfather, aunt and father all have made beautiful jewelry for a living. My father even made my sister's gorgeous engagement ring.

I will never make fancy jewelry - but I thought I'd give it a whirl with beads. I went to a local bead store and they showed me the best stretchy string to buy along with glue to hold the string together.

I love necklaces with tons of strands. I planned on using these beads to make as many strands as possible.

So I cut the Stretch Magic string to the length that I wanted.

I had no idea how to stop the beads from falling off the opposite end so I used a piece of tape.

I poured some beads in my hand and began stringing them on one by one.

The tape worked!

It took me about 45 minutes to string all these beads on. Not sure what I was watching on tv in the background - this is the perfect activity to do in front of a tv.

At this point I stood up, with the necklace in hand, to look in the mirror at the length, assure it was just right. I bet you can guessed what happened.

EVERY SINGLE BEAD FELL OFF THE STRING. Classic Smash move. I didn't take a picture of this mistake because the beads went all over my entire house. It would be impossible to catch it. (Also I didn't want to show you the dog hair.)

I managed to find almost all of the beads.

Following the instructions of the lovely lady at the bead store, I tied two over hand knots (right over left) then one more (left over right.) As I pulled it tight, I put a drop of the cement glue on the knot.

It seemed to hold together well after 15 minutes of drying.  I even made another necklace that night.

Today I wore both lovely necklaces to work yesterday. Unfortunately, the knot came loose on one of the necklaces and another gazillion beads fell to the floor. Looks like I have a lot of practice ahead of me with tying knots.

Overall - I love making bead necklaces. I see many in my future. I'll keep you posted!

Wrap It Up

So after last week's foray into savory and sweet foods - I have chosen to share with you a healthy meal to start our week off right.

I was responsible for dinner recently and I thought turkey lettuce wraps would be a great healthy meal. I decided to stir fry ground turkey with some yummy vegetables, toss in some lettuce and call it a wrap.

The first thing I did was brown the turkey.

I tossed the mushrooms in next and drained the excess water.

Next I tossed in most of the remaining veggies. In the cute purple bowl are onions, water chestnuts and red peppers.

At this point I added soy sauce, salt, pepper, and garlic salt.

I always need a little bit of sugar so I threw in a spoonful of brown sugar.

Bean sprouts are the last addition!

Overall it was a good, healthy meal. It wasn't incredible. It did not knock my socks off, and none of the leftovers were touched. But it sufficed. I am sure it would be better next time with a few different spices and sauces - that is what Kiss My Smash is all about : try, try and try again!
