I’m sure if you’re a girl, and have watched Sex and the City at some point in your life, you’ve felt like me. I am madly in love with Carrie Bradshaw’s hair. Everything about my hair is the opposite of Carrie. Flat, fine, and not flowing in an angel like fashion.
Something I love more than anything is her larger than life buns. When I happened upon this great tutorial on how to imitate said big bun I was thrilled!
It’s called a sock bun.
First you find a sock the color of your hair and cut off the toes. Roll it up until it looks like a donut.
Slide it over your pony.
At this part I was a little stumped. I remember the directions saying something like wrapping your hair around the bun and it will look like Carrie Bradshaw. Clearly, that is not the case.
(I might be legally required to tell you this is a reenactment.)
I was so angry that it didn’t work and it seemed so easy on the blog, that I threw away my sock bun (The one you’re viewing is a replica.)
Days later I was discussing this predicament with a coworker. She said, “You’re an idiot. You did it wrong.” Okay, maybe she did not use those words exactly, but she explained how to do the bun accurately. I went back to the original post and realized, yes! It can be done!!
So instead of wrapping your hair around the sock donut, you fan your pony over the bun and secure it with a rubber band. Now you look really weird.
Take any hair that is stick out and slide it around. Secure with bobby’s and you’re all done. If your hair is medium-long length, it will appear as if the longer hair is holding the bun in place. Awesome.
Finally! Something I can do!
